It seems hard to believe, but the massive fight between Floyd Mayweather Jr and Juan Manuel Marquez is less than two weeks away! This is Mayweather coming out of retirement here and if all goes well, he looks destined for a bout-of-the-decade with Phillipino sensation Manny Pacquiao.
As it currently stands, its hard to see anything getting in the way of Mayweather as he commands a massive 1.2 price against Marquez, who sits at 4.33 for the outright victory. You'll find the draw listed at 29.0.
In terms of the method of victory betting, you'll find that a points victory looks set for Mayweather and it is listed at a slim 1.83. It is clear from the odds that the bookmakers think this fight will go the distance- which is great because I don't. I'm confident that Mayweather will knock out Marquez in the later rounds.
Floyd Mayweather Jr to win by KO, TKO or DQ pays out at 3.0 while a KO, TKO, DQ victory for Marquez is listed at 8.0. You'll find the same price available on a points win. Again, the draw is listed at 29.0.
If you think this one is going to go the distance, you're looking at a 1.57 price. For the fight to be settled before the 12th round will pay out at 2.25.
As usual, the real bank-breaking bets are in the round betting department. You can get a very clear portrait of how the fighters are expected to perform by looking at their round betting. While Ladbrokes doesn't favour Mayweather to win by KO, you'll notice that his odds dip significantly in the 7-10 rounds where he goes for a price of 19.0. He starts at a high of 41.0 in the 1st before dipping to 34.0 in the 2nd. A 3rd round win pays 29.0 while a round 4 victory is 26.0. It dips again to 23 and then 21 in the 5th and 6th rounds. The odds begin to climb to 23 in the 11th before finalizing at 29.0 in the final round.
Marquez is 101.0 to win in the first round with the second round at 81.0. Rounds 3-7 are listed at 67.0 while rounds 8-11 pay out at 51.0. His odds climb to 67.0 for the final round.
There is clearly much more value on Marquez to win, but I simply think Mayweather is the better fighter. His orthodox style of fighting, combined with his impressive win record, makes me very confident that he'll have what it takes here. If you're backing Marquez, he doesn't really have a chance in a contest, so I suggest you take him to win in rounds 7-11 while Mayweather looks solid in rounds 8-10. I think Mayweather simply has more outs here and will likely get the result.
